About Us | Members

Team #84 is a partnership of students from 5 local area high schools, corporate and other sponsors, dedicated advisors, mentors, alumni, engineers and parents. Each year the team comes together to build our robot, affectionately named Chuck, and compete in the FIRST robotics competition.

There are around 25 students on the team this year, and just about as many alumni, parents, and advisors who help. We would also not be a team today if it weren't for our wonderful sponsors who donate time, money, food/drink, and much more.

The following school districts participate with Team #84

  • Waverly Central School District
  • Athens Area School District
  • Towanda Area School District
  • Troy Area School District
  • Northeast Bradford School District

    :: FAQ ::

    Q: Who is Chuck?
Chuck is the name of the robot that Team #84 builds each year to participate in FIRST.

Q: Why the name Chuck 84?
Chuck 84 was named because a large portion of the team has traditionally owned and worn Converse Chuck Taylor shoes, and our official FIRST team number is 84.

    Q: What is FIRST?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization dedicated to bringing science and technology to young people around the world. More information can be found on the FIRST website

Q: How many members are involved with Chuck 84?
There are about 23 students and 18 adults (advisors and engineers) on Chuck 84.

Q: Why are there so many schools involved with Chuck 84?
The five schools involved with Chuck 84 (see above) are relatively small but are fairly close together, we find it logical to consolidate into one team.

    Q: What happened to WATTNESS?
WATTNESS was the team name in previous years. Each letter in WATTNESS stood for a school involved with the team. This year, in order to allow more schools to join, the team has adopted a more universal, but still recognizable name, Chuck 84.

What are some of Chuck 84's notable accomplishments?
Chuck 84 was the champion of Ramp Riot 2002 and Maryland State Fair 2003 off-season competitions. Chuck 84 took 2nd place overall at the 1999 National Competition. The team has also performed very well in other regional, championship, and off-season competitions.
